In 1972, Miles Davis's endless touring started catching up with him. He started taking more trips to the beach and fewer trips to the studio and found himself gazing out at the waves and the statue of liberty in the distance. As he pondered thought after thought while popping pill after pill, he decides to retire from music. This decision shook his soul to the core yet brought his body and mind an eerie inner peace. But the peace didn't last for long as he wound up nearly dead just hours later. Was this the beginning of the end? or the end of the beginning? After all, when one story ends, another has just begun.

Miles Davis seemingly vanished off the face of the earth in late 1975. However, Miles himself just called it retirement. In a period in Miles Davis's life that would become known as "The Lost Years," The snowball effect of his destructive lifestyle began picking up more momentum than ever. The walls of his 700-square-foot town home were closing in on him from all sides. By 1978 Miles was barely surviving. Strung out in a constant state of manic intoxication, Miles receives a surprise visit from his eight-year-old son, who got a raw glimpse into his father's "retirement." Would it be the key to helping Miles end the cycle of destruction, or dig him deeper into the chaos?

The unique combination of embarrassment, shame, and having literally run out of drugs on that night eventually led to Miles sobering up. But not before he almost drugged himself to sleep for good. When Miles begins again, he tries to start new, and lead a simple life, but new challenges emerge when he is made to face his inner demons. Will He break the evil cycle?

He excels in using modern recording equipment and electronic instruments to make his last few iconic, genre-shifting albums. He also explores an entirely new art form via paintbrush and canvas.
A few months before Miles passed away, he told a close friend “The gods don’t punish people by not giving them what they want. The gods punish people by giving them what they want and then not giving them time.” Although those final years of Miles Davis's life might seem creative and peaceful, the truth is that he was in a constant race with time. Will he run this race to the grave? Or find peace before his time is up?
